b.a. SWEETIE CANDY COMPANY INC

b.a. SWEETIE CANDY COMPANY INC

We have made our last day trip of the summer to Sweetie Candy located at 7480 Brookpark Road Cleveland, Ohio www.sweetiescandy.com. Established in 1950 the building sits on 20,000 square feet space with over 3,500 different kinds of candy and an inventory of over one million dollars. If you are looking for the newest candy to the old school candy bar it will be in this store. If you can’t find it, it’s no longer being made. After walking into the store I was literally a little boy in a candy store I wanted to eat everything in sight. From a large range of Pez dispenser to the largest Tootsie Roll Pop and Sugar Daddy I have ever seen. While we were at the checkout line we saw their fliers and found out they also have a store in Chandler, Arizona. Just our luck we are going to Arizona this winter and we already added it to our to do list.

How many licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop 1,2,3,......

CAMPGROUND FAMILY

Today, we spend the afternoon with some very great people who have accepted us into their lives and have treated us like family.  They invited us into their homes and we had lunch together at a Japanese Buffet. When we leave next week on our way to our winter home in Arizona it will be a tough time turning the key in the RV to pull out without thinking of them. The hardest part I have found as being a Full-Time RV’er is saying our goodbyes. We have met great people everywhere we go and I’m sure we will meet more along our adventures. M&S and R&N thank you for being great friends and allowing us the pleasure to be part of your family. Keep in touch, be safe on the road and hope that our paths cross once again in the near future.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

21 Sep

Spent the day with my parents and went out for steak dinner at the American Legions in Louisville OH. When we returned back to the campground we were invited to a campfire. I brought my iron pie maker and they had three different kinds of marshmallow we cooked over the fire. When we returned back to our camper I had graffiti on my car and RV wishing me a Happy Birthday. At first I thought it was my Aunt, but they were not in the park this weekend, so it had to be the host couple who took a walk while I was cooking pie and s'mores around the campfire.

22 Sep

I went to bed I was 41 and woke up 42, I don't fill any different. I spent the day at the adult center flipping between the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians game. Both Cleveland teams gave me my gift, by both teams winning on my Birthday. I spent a nice quite day watch football and baseball games. While I was relaxing some friends came into the adult center and sang Happy Birthday to me. The wife made me a spaghetti dinner and we returned to the adult center to play our Sunday night dominoes with the other seasonal campers.

A SAD DAY FOR FARWELL

Being a full time RVer one of the saddest days are saying goodbye at the end of a season. Today is one of those days. We said our farewells to our neighbor. They packed up and pulled out this morning around 10:00 am. We received hugs and saw tears in their eyes as they pulled away. They are getting maintenance done on their rig before putting in storage and hibernating in their home for the winter before returning next season. The good news is we will see them one more time at the final pot luck of the season later this week.

M & S we will miss you, but will always remember you.

The weather is getting cooler and as every day passes it's starting to fill more like fall/winter is closing in. During the day the weather is bearable, but at night and early morning we have to use the heaters and big blankets. We have three weeks left, but I just hope the day pass by quicker so we can start traveling down the gypsy highway heading for warmer weather.

FULL-TIMER RV'ing 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Officially, today marks our first anniversary of full-time RV'ing. From not knowing anything about motor homes we have learned a lot on the go and some from others we have met who have been RV'ing for years. We have seen some great places and met good people along the way. There has been a lot of good day, with a few bad days mixed in between. We are looking forward to where the road will take us next.

I want to personally thank everyone who have been reading my blog this past year. I never thought I would get this many views. I will continue to work on making the blog better and will share with you the adventures we encounter.

We have only three - four weeks remaining  in Ohio, before heading West for the winter. We have a few more places we are going to visit before hitting the road. Stay tune to our upcoming adventures.

MILLS CREEK & AKRON ZOO

Interesting week full of walking, learning and viewing. After a long Labor Day Weekend, we had to leave the RV park and visit another kind of park. First, we took a day trip to Mills Creek Park in Canfield, OH. The two view point that put this park above other is a water fall and a suspension bridge that is 118 years old. Mills Creeks Park established in 1891 is the first park district in Ohio and sites on 4,400 acres with recreation opportunities include hiking, biking, boating, fishing, golf, picnicking and in the the winters cross country skiing and sledding. The bridge known as the Silver Bridge, was erected in 1895 by the Youngstown Bridge Company to connect the east and west sides of the park. The Silver Bridge measures 86 feet long and 32 feet wide. The northern section of the park includes Lanterman's Falls with the views of cascading waterfalls.

Lions, Tigers, Bears ....Oh my!

We went to the Akron Zoo less than one hour from the RV park. Admission is $10 a person and $2 for parking. When we arrived at the ticket counter, I asked if they had military discounts and they did. It dose not hurt to ask and sometimes it pays off. Tickets were half price and parking was free. The wife and I got in for a full day of fun for a total of $10. Most schools has started the new school year, so we did not expect to see so many kids at the zoo. Some of the big attractions was the snow leopard, aquatic touch tank and grizzly bear. The zoo is located right in the middle of the town surrounded by housing complexes.

MLB & CAR SHOW

This week was started off by going to a Cleveland Indians game vs Los Angles Angles at Progressive Field. We got lucky, a fellow camper had tickets and could not go to the games so he gave us the tickets for free. When we arrived either batting practice was over or there was none since it was a 1:05 pm first pitch. We have been to Progressive Field (aka Jacobs Field to true Tribe fans) several times, but never from the nose bleed section. I can't complain too much, FREE TICKETS! The view of the field and game is different from a birds eye view. You can see the whole field and when the ball is hit in the air it's at eye level. I can not recall a Tribe game I went to where the god guys lost. By the fifth inning I had a bad felling this might be the first time I see the Tribe lose in person. However, as the tail says if a bird poops on you good luck will come.In the top of the sixth a bird did just that. In the bottom of that inning the Tribe hit two two-run home runs to tie the game. Bottom of the seventh Tribe hit a solo shoot to take the lead and added an insurance run in the eight. Chris Perez came in and closed out the game for the win to keep my win streak in tact.

The traffic leaving Cleveland was bad, so we walked to the Horse Shoe Casino and ate at the buffet dinner. By the time we left the casino there was no traffic and getting out of Cleveland was a breeze.

At the campgrounds there was a car show the Cutty's 1st Cruise In. The turn out was impressive with 95 cars, trucks and bikes showing up. There was vehicles from the 20's to current models. This event was put together by Cutty's campers to support the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department. When there is an emergency call for Cutty's Marlboro Fire Depart is detached. I have seen first hand at least three times they were called and two were for my neighbors on my row.  A good day with fellow campers and community to support a good cause raising over $1,000 for Marlboro Fire Department and the 50/50 drawing pot was over $1,500. With the turn out I'm sure there will be a Cutty's 2nd Cruise In next year.
